More than the celebrations that should be marked with patriotic fervour and spirit, the Independence Day became another platform for political rivals Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party to launch jibes at each other involving Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
Soon after the Gujarat chief minister finished his Independence Day speech challenging the prime minister for an open debate, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid called Modi a khalnayak.
