Kenya is the leading market in Africa for skin care products for Oriflame East Africa.
According to the company’s Managing Director Piyush Chandra, over 60 percent of the company’s sales are secured through their skincare portfolio.
Tanzania on the other hand, is overall Oriflame’s biggest market in East Africa owing to their relatively younger population.
Speaking during the company’s 50th universal anniversary, Chandra says that fragrances are more popular in Tanzania, followed closely by skincare products.
“Kenya is not a mature market, but you wouldn’t compare it with Tanzania’s much younger population. These markets are very different, which is a very good thing for the growth of the company,” Chandra says, adding that the company’s customers are growing by double digits year on year.
Overall, the company’s biggest markets on the continent are Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria and Tunisia respectively.
Globally, Russia is Oriflame’s leading market, followed by Indonesia, India, Turkey and Mexico. Surprisingly, Sweden, where the company is from, is not among its leading market owing to its aging population.
“Oriflame has however revamped its offering in Sweden, in a bid to appeal to its population.”
Chadra says the company is now focusing on maximizing on its existing markets even as it ventures into new markets.
