President Trump's Former Lawyer
Michael Cohen Sentenced to
Three Years in Jail Back in August, Cohen pleaded guilty to
tax fraud, lying to banks and
violating campaign finance laws. He also pleaded guilty last month to lying to Congress about a failed deal to build a Trump Tower in Moscow. That case was lodged by
Robert Mueller, who said Cohen went "to significant lengths to assist the Special Counsel's investigation." The three-year sentence is on the low end of what prosecutors had suggested for Cohen's crimes. He is due to surrender to prison on
March 6, 2019. The president hasn't been charged but Cohen's admissions leave open the possibility that Trump
could face prosecution particularly once he
leaves the White House.
