Mexico's New President Talks Militarization Plan

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on his first day in office defended a plan to create a new national guard. Reuters reports that in a speech Sunday, Mexico’s first leftist president in decades pivoted from his campaign rhetoric of peaceful reconciliation for those involved in the country’s drug war to a more traditional stance of militarization and police. His plan entails a 60,000-person national guard force to battle crime.
