'The House with a Clock in Its Walls' Cast, On Embracing Yourself

Jack Black and Cate Blanchett hope their new fantasy film “The House with a Clock in Its Walls” helps kids realize that their differences might actually be their superpowers.
“It’s a shame that some kids might bury the things that they really are inside because they want to fit in so badly and this movie has a great message to celebrate your individuality,” Black said.
When asked what she wanted kids who saw the movie to walk away with, Blanchette said that she hopes they know, “that it’s ok to feel sad, that it’s ok to have, what seem to be insurmountable experiences. You just need to find one person who gets you and then together you’re stronger than being by yourself.”
Black says that the message of the whole movie is not being embarrassed or ashamed of being different than everyone.
“It’s also about family, and these characters, all three of them come from broken families and they come together and form a bond. They’re their own new family unit,” he explained. “And that’s where their power comes from, from their working together."
The spooky family-friendly film, directed by horror icon Eli Roth, is out in theaters right now.
