A 12-year-old boy who survived a plane crash spent the night in the wreckage among dead bodies – including his father – before being rescued.

A nine-person flight by Indonesian charter airline Dimonim Air crashed in the forest of West Papua on August 11, killing all but Muhammad Jumaidi.

The boy reportedly clutched his father as the light aircraft plunged into the thick undergrowth – but he did not survive.

He was reportedly forced to spend the night among bodies at the crash site before he was found on Saturday.

Footage shows the rescue effort after locals and authorities find the wreckage near Menuk mountain, in Pegunungan Bintang district.

After being treated at local hospitals, Jumaidi was airlifted to hospital in Jayapura, Papua.

He added: “The patient has no serious bleeding, but from the initial examination we discovered that the patient has suffered a mild head injury, in which the time of the incident he had lost consciousness, so that we categorize it mild head injury, then there is a fracture in the right arm."
