NRC Row: TMC stages protests in Kolkata against NRC

The NRC debate continues as TMC observes black day in Kolkata to express their opposition against the Assam NRC. The issue has become a key debate at the congress working committee meeting which is currently underway while Sonia Gandhi has skipped the meet. It is the second meeting chaired by Rahul since he had taken charge. Ahead of 2019 elections the national register of citizens has emerged as a boon for the opposition which plans to take on the BJP head on. Meanwhile the centre on the other hand has given multiple assurances to the opposition that the draft is not final and NRC is being done under Supreme Court’s supervision.
