Well Mark… Officials said Sunday that the death toll has now reached at least 48.
The 28-seater bus, travelling from Bhoan to Ramnagar, was said to have been overloaded with about 60 people onboard.
Officials said the driver had lost control and swerved off the road, eventually plummeting into a 200-meter gorge in the mountainous district of Pauri Garhwal.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his condolences saying authorities are providing all possible assistance at the accident site.
As of yet it is unclear what caused the crash, but bad weather and a large pothole are being considered possible causes.
The chief minister of the state of Uttarakhand said a magisterial inquiry has been ordered.
Road accidents are frequent in India, with poorly maintained vehicles and traffic laws, as well as reckless driving.
