Schoolboy set to become the youngest racing driver in British GT history - AGED 16

A 16-year-old is the youngest racing driver in British GT history - despite being too young to hold a UK driving licence.

Speed freak Tom Canning will become the youngest driver ever to compete in the British GT Championship, which begins on Easter weekend.

He is not yet old enough to drive on the roads but is hoping to run rings around drivers with years more experience than him.

He will be driving one of the two Toyota GT4 cars being run by Steller Motorsport in the competition – and will be just 16 years and 35 days old when he competes in the first of British GT’s two hour-long races on Easter Monday (2/4).

He eclipses the current record-holder, Sandy Mitchell, who was six days older than Tom and his youngest-ever fastest lap, pole position and race victory benchmarks are now also under threat this season.
