Ronnie Walker - Just What I Needed

Ronnie Walker sings "Just What I Needed" for our wonderful album "Northern Soul 2010", which was released in September 2010. It includes a bonus DVD with all 24 tracks of the CD plus 4 extra tracks. At the time when the UK was a buzz with the new feature film "Soul Boy", set against a backdrop of the 1970's Northern Soul Scene, this amazing album brings the Northern Soul sound into the "here and now". A fresh vibrancy, music which still holds the spirit and feel of the records heard at legendary clubs like the Wigan Casino and the Blackpool Mecca. It features brand new songs from established names famous on the rare soul dancefloors of the UK. Legends like Sidney Barnes, Clem Curtis, Jimmy Thomas, Moon Williams, Jimmy James, D.C. Larue and Ronnie Walker. Also presents new talent including Fay Jones, Nat Augustin, Lyn Jerrard, and Tahira Jumah. Ever since Sidney Barnes' "Standing On Solid Ground" crossed over to dancefloors everywhere that embrace's Northern Soul, these new albums stick two fingers up to the retentive purists, celebrate the joy and optimism of the best musical form ever created. Free from bias, blinkered and sad individuals who won't even listen to a record if it isn't forty years old and sold over a hundred copies when first released. Ronnie was the early songwriting partner of Philadelphia legend Vince Montana, and my dear old friend Val Shiveley, one of Philadelphia's oldest record dealers, traced Ronnie for me, back in 1998. Prior to that moment no-one had ever tracked him down. He had an earlier Northern Soul smash called "You're The One", on Phillips Records, but it was "You Got To Try Harder", with its perfectly pitched, clear as a bell falsetto, that really epitomised those mid Sixties nights in the Highland Room at Blackpool Mecca. Originally, back in Late 1998, that particular song was yet another legendary Northern Soul smash that we filmed for "The Strange World Of Northern Soul". We had no lead for Ronnie for ages, but kept on looking, until, after much searching, we tracked him down to make these one time performances for the documentary. We then cut "So Far Beyond My Dreaming" for Northern Soul 2009, and now "Just What I Needed" for Northern Soul 2010.
