Street musician playing African percussion instrument will mesmerise you

Senegalese street musician Salliou has lived his whole life in Gorée Island where he plays and harvests cas cas by hand, a traditional percussion instrument originating from West Africa.

In the clip, captured on January 5, Salliou shows off his amazing skills playing the cas cas, which consists of two wooden balls filled with pebbles and connected by a cord.

Salliou can be seen creating complex rhythms as he shakes and knocks the balls against each other.

The filmer writes: ‘’Salliou makes and sells these cas cas for a living, and plays music every single day, surrounded by a community of artists and musicians.’’

‘’Music is a huge part of the Senegalese culture and for the musicians, it’s actually their form of religious practice so most of them are playing music all the time and get very good.’’
