Spotify Cracking Down on Free Users Stealing Premium Service According to Torrent Freak, the music streamer is seeking to police free users that take advantage of hacked apps in order to remove the restrictions of unpaid accounts. These users sign up for a free accounts, then download a modified Spotify installation file to get access to premium features. Spotify has been sending out emails to these accounts in recent days. If we detect repeated use of unauthorized apps in violation of our terms, we reserve all rights, including suspending or terminating your account. The number of hacked accounts is unavailable, but Spotify does boast 159 million users around the world, and 71 million of those accounts are paid premium subscribers.
