Colin Firth has lived with the incredible true story of D. Crowhurst in mind day and night for a long time. The very sad story has been brought to life again by Colin Firth's massive performance (which involved a mental and physical transformation, getting inside the mind of a man who goes mad with loneliness, guilt and suffering, which also involved starving and taking sailing lessons), along Rachel Weisz's great supporting performance as his wife Claire. Directed by James Marsh, the film was shot in Devon and in Malta.
