Apple Relaxes Face ID Accuracy to Speed Up Production

Investing.com - Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has allowed suppliers to relax some of the specifications for the iPhone X's facial recognition system in order to speed up production.Apple is struggling to get a grip on manufacturing problems plaguing its flagship device ahead of its release date on November 3.The Face ID system, among the $999 iPhone X's most talked about features, uses a mathematical model of users' faces to allow them to log in to their phones. The news comes after reports earlier this week indicated that Apple will ship just 20 million units of the iPhone X this year, half the amount it had planned. If those reports are true it would lead to a major drop in sales of a flagship device. In 2015, Apple sold 13 million iPhone 6S and 6S Plus devices in its first weekend alone.Apple has faced a slew of issues with its latest set of phones that it launched in in September, with many users skipping the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus to wait for the X.
