The U.S. Marines Has A Female Office For The First Time In History

One woman is taking aim at history.

An anonymous woman is the first to complete the Marine’s Infantry Officer Course, a grueling 13-week program that's considered one of the toughest in the U.S. military. More than 130 Marines began the course in July, and only 88 graduated.

The Pentagon opened up front-line combat jobs to women in 2015. So far, 36 women have tried and failed to complete the course. In the course, soldiers have to have the strength and stamina to carry equipment weighing 152 pounds. About 10 percent don’t make it past the first day.

But this lieutenant, who is keeping her identity private, is blazing a trail.
