There’s A World Championship For Snail Racing

by Andrew CaringiReady, steady, slow! One hundred and fifty shelled speed demons entered the World Snail Racing Championships in Congham, England, on Saturday. Newcomer Larry The Snail triumphed over his sluggish competitors, covering the 13-inch course in two minutes and 47 seconds.Larry was liberated from his owner Tara’s garden the night before, but was too slow to beat the world record of two minutes set by Archie The Snail (no relation) in 1996.The storied, yet slow, event has been running since the 1960s and has become an annual tradition in the rural Norfolk county of Great Britain.Larry The Snail’s spoils included a lettuce-filled trophy, and back home he was granted a feast of grapes.Lucky Larry!
