Saint Petersburg Crowd Bounces Around Giant Inflatable Rubber Duck as a Symbol of Protest

Crowds in Saint Petersburg bounced a giant, yellow, inflatable rubber duck in front of the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood in Saint Petersburg during protests on June 12 that saw more than 130 people arrested.Rubber ducks have become a symbol of protest against corruption since an investigation into Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev’s property showed a house by a pond that was built for the use of ducks.At least 100 more people were reported to have been arrested in Moscow during similar protests on the same day.Opposition organizers in the city were arrested ahead of the march, Deutsche Welle’s correspondent in St. Petersburg reported.Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was reported to have been arrested en route to a demonstration in Moscow.
