A top communications official for the Democratic National Committee, or DNC, has called for White House senior adviser Jared Kushner to be fired after a recent report that he had tried to set up a back channel with Russia.

A top communications official for the Democratic National Committee, or DNC, has called for White House senior adviser Jared Kushner to be fired after a Washington Post report that he had tried to set up a back channel with Russia.
On Saturday, deputy director Adrienne Watson tweeted, “Trump has no choice but to fire Kushner, whose failure to report this on his security clearance is enough for a criminal investigation.”
She also reportedly released a statement which added, “The next question is whether the President authorized this, because no one stands between Trump and Kushner on the chain of command.”
Watson had previously stated on May 25, “The FBI’s Russia investigation reached Trump’s backyard, and now it’s in his house. Kushner’s security clearance should be suspended until the FBI’s findings are complete.”
Her more recent comments were made soon after the Post reported on Friday, “Kushner and Russia’s ambassador to Washington discussed the possibility of setting up a secret and secure communications channel between Trump’s transition team and the Kremlin, using Russian diplomatic facilities in an apparent move to shield their pre-inauguration discussions from monitoring, according to U.S. officials briefed on intelligence reports.”
The exchange is believed to have taken place in early December at Trump Tower.
While the White House has largely remained silent on the Post report, national security adviser H.R. McMaster tried to downplay any concerns, telling reporters at a press conference, “I would not be concerned about it. We have back-channel communications with a number of countries...what that allows you to do is to communicate in a discreet manner.”
