Man rescues woman and small child from vicious pit bull attack

CHARTIERS TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA — A woman has undergone multiple surgeries after trying to protect her child from being killed by a pit bull.

On April 9, Kylie Welch and her two daughters, ages 4 and 7, were volunteering at an animal shelter as they normally do. While taking a pit bull out for a walk, out of nowhere, the dog suddenly snapped. It first went after the smallest child, biting the girl above her eye. When the mother jumped in to interrupt the attack, the pit bull turned on her, biting her on both arms and breaking one of them.

Local man Justin Killion ran over to help when his daughter yelled out for him as she witnessed the two being mauled. Killion initially tried to whip the dog with his belt and punch him, but the dog was relentless, and he eventually had to tackle it to get it away from them.

Emaly Welch, 4, has been treated for the bite above her eye. Her mother, Kylie, was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where she underwent a two-hour long surgery, with more to come.

The pit bull has reportedly been euthanized.
