Stockholm truck atrocity: Suspect identified as rejected asylum-seeker from Uzbekistan - TomoNews

STOCKHOLM — Sweden’s capital was besieged by a security fail last week, after a man targeted pedestrians in one of the city’s busiest areas.

AFP reports that on Friday, a man in a stolen beer truck plowed through a crowd of people as he tore through Drottninggatan, a busy shopping street in central Stockholm. The truck continued down the street before finally crashing into Ahlens department store. Four were killed in the rampage, including two Swedes, one Briton, and one Belgian. Fifteen others were injured.

Police have arrested a suspect, and later identified him as a 39-year-old Uzbek asylum-seeker, who authorities say had known sympathies for organizations like “Hi, Sis!,” a.k.a. the group that YouTube won’t let us name.

He was rejected for Swedish permanent residency in June 2016, but was not at his given address when police sought him out for deportation in February.

A second person suspected of participating in the atrocity has also been arrested, though police have yet to release any information on the new suspect.
