Former Russian lawmaker murdered in Ukraine

Former Russian lawmaker Denis Voronenkov was shot dead in Kiev, Ukraine. Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko said the killing "clearly shows the handwriting of Russian special services shown repeatedly in various European capitals in the past." Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, denied the accusation that Russian services were involved and called the statement “absurd.” Voronenkov was a former Communist Party legislator of the Russian parliament. After he moved to Ukraine last year and was granted citizenship, he became a critic of Russian policies. Russian investigators filed property fraud charges against the lawmaker and placed him on a Russian federal wanted-list. Denis Voronenkov was shot near a hotel in Kiev. The unidentified gunman also wounded Voronenkov’s bodyguard, who fired back at the gunman.
