Lonesome Blues – Max Carling 1984
In 1926 Johnny Dodds recorded Lonesome Blues as a member of Louis Armstrong’s Hot Five.
Some 58 years later 15 year old Max Carling played it again with his father’s band during a concert in Poland.
Trombonist Spiegle Willcox, who stayed at the Carling Family’s house several times, told me that in the large old house in Gotheborg Sweden, each of the youngsters had their own room with their own recordplayer where they could study their instrument’s parts of the early jazz tunes.
Max, in this tune, found his way and through hard work and a great deal of talent managed to play this stunning performance.
