When the Saints go marchin’ in – Jimmy McPartland 1954
Jimmy McPartland trumpet, Pee Wee Russell clarinet, Jimmy Archey trombone, Willie “The Lion” Smith piano, Pops Foster bass and George Wettling drums.
Traditions remain! Even today, most jazzbands finish off their evening with “The Saints”.
In this clip the crowd is totally wild, It all ends like a polonaise, the musicians are dragged from the stage in order to front the dancing crowd. This happened in 1954 on this film already and still today, on my last gig 3 weeks ago, but some 54 year later, a similar situation! Good time jazz........ that’s what it is all about!
