What to See and Do in Melaka, Malaysia

Welcome to the Old Town of Melaka. It is the third largest city in Malaysia and it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was founded in the 14th century by a fleeing prince from Sumatra. It was later colonized by the Portuguese, Dutch and finally the British. Today I am going to show you everything you can see and do in the Old Town. You just need one day to see it, now lets explore Melaka!
Christ Church was built by the Dutch in 1753 to commemorate the occupation of the city. It was later converted into an Anglican Church by the British. Next is St Paul’s Church, which was the main church in Melaka until the Dutch built Christ Church. Even before that it was used as a catholic church by the Portugues and when the British came they used it for ammunition warehouse.
Porta de Santiago or A Famosa is the one of the oldest surviving European constructions in Malaysia. Taming Sari Tower is a twirling observation deck that takes you 100 meters in the sky to get amazing views of Old Town Melaka.
Melaka is extremely hot! And the best way to cool down is by eating a cendol. I am trying a pretty fancy one with Durian, a Southeast Asian fruit that people love. Mix it up, and try! The fruit is infamous for its smell but it taste delicious!
This is Jonker Street, aka Melaka’s Chinatown street. It was once full of antique shops but those have since given way to souvenir shops and restaurants. The one dish you need to try here is Nyonya Laksa, which has spices, chillies, chicken, egg and shrimp, it’s so good!
Cheng Hoon Tenge Temple is the oldest functioning temple in Malaysia. It practices the three doctrinal systems of Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism. It is one of the most beautiful temples in Malaysia and it should not be missed!
Melaka is a picturesque colonial town definitely worth a visit.
