How do these Blood-suckers keep from getting sick?

Researchers aim to answer why disease-carrying ticks somehow stay healthy. Ticks can transmit up to 6 pathogens, most notably the hard to treat Lyme Disease. The study found that a tick's genes make it unrelated to other insects, like mosquitoes. By manipulating these genes, scientists discovered ticks had fewer bacteria if their immune systems were overactive. The goal would be to boost a tick's immune system enough that the Lyme disease bacteria would be untransmittable.
