Meet Emily Nagel: The Young Sailor From the Bermuda Triangle

A born and bred Bermudian, Emily Nagel started sailing at age 10, even though she wasn’t really raised in a sailing family. She raced small, light beginner boats for youth and then went to boarding school in the UK where she swam competitively and majored in Naval architecture (starting out with mechanical engineering). She realized she had a talent for sailing when she started placing in the European and world championships. Now being mentored by legendary ORACLE Team USA skipper Jimmy Spithill, the 22-year rising star competes for Team Bermuda in the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup, which takes place in Bermuda in the summer of 2017. She was also chosen by Spithill to be on an exploratory foiling mission from New York back to her home nation with some of the best sailors the America’s Cup has ever known.
