Dashcam video shows unarmed black man with his hands raised shot by Tulsa cop

TULSA, OKLAHOMA — Tulsa authorities have just released dashcam footage showing the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man at the hands of careless officers. As with many of these cases, the cops’ version of events doesn’t match what the camera recorded.
Tulsa World reports that 40-year-old Terence Crutcher was driving down 36th Street North in Tulsa, Oklahoma, when his SUV broke down.
911 dispatchers soon received calls of a smoking vehicle in the middle of the road and sent a police officer Betty Shelby to the scene.
The Tulsa Police Department has released dashcam footage from one of the police cars at the scene. The video shows Crutcher walking towards his vehicle with his hands raised above his head. Shelby is walking behind him, aiming a gun at his back. Another officer, Tyler Turnbough, arrives at the scene wielding a Taser. Two more officers follow.
As Crutcher put down his hands to open the car door, he is hit with the Taser. Almost simultaneously, Shelby shoots him.
Minutes passed before any of the officers administered first aid, with one cop choosing to first search the injured man before giving help.
Shelby told dispatchers she had “shot a subject who won't show me his hands.” And the initial report filed by police states that Crutcher wasn’t complying with demands. But with the video clearly showing Crutcher with his hands raised, and no weapon found in the car, people are outraged.
Crutcher’s family is devastated by the loss, and is calling for criminal charges to be made.
