CINCINNATI — A father accidentally shot and killed his 14-year-old son, mistaking him for an intruder in the early morning hours of Jan. 12.

According to Cincinnati police, Georta Mack told his father he was going to school and walked down the street of their home, located in the 1200 block of Blanchard Avenue in East Price Hill around 6:30 a.m.

Shortly after, Georta decided to skip class and returned home. He snuck into the basement, where he planned to hide until his father went to work. Hearing noises in the house, his father went downstairs with a handgun, anticipating an intruder.

Upon entering the basement, the man immediately fired his gun at the intruder, but quickly realized it was Georta. After shooting his sun in the neck, the man called 911, and Georta was rushed to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. At around 8:15 a.m., he was pronounced dead.

The father is now being interviewed by police. It is unclear whether or not he will be charged, although authorities suspect it was an accident.
