Meet Gisele, the Niqab-Wearing Thrash Metal Guitarist

This is Gisele Maria Rocha, a Muslim woman living in Sao Paulo's Santana district in Brazil. She chooses to wear the full Muslim veil, called the niqab, which has a small slit in the headscarf that only reveals her eyes to passerbys. But Gisele is no ordinary Muslim, in fact, she is no ordinary woman. Gisele became a sensation in Sao Paulo's Heavy Metal scene for playing concerts while wearing her niqab. She converted to Islam in 2009 when she first read the Quran. Since then, she has been wearing a niqab during her gigs and when men are around.
