Around two dozen environmentalists have set up camp in Hambach forest to thwart efforts to clear the centuries-old trees. The RWE mining company owns the land, and wants to access the valuable coal buried underneath. Environmental activists are holding their ground to halt those plans. They dig tunnel traps, chain themselves to trees, and sabotage diggers. They want to protect the forest and also question Germany's reliance on CO2-intensive brown coal for power generation.
