FDA Bans Some Cilantro From Mexico After Human Feces Found In Fields

The FDA has declared an import ban on some Mexican cilantro after a recent string of infections caused by a pathogen transferred through feces have been linked to unsanitary conditions on many Mexican cilantro farms.

After finding human feces and toilet paper in cilantro growing fields in Puebla, Mexico, the zesty herb is again being blamed by the FDA and CDC for a spate of cyclosporiasis outbreaks. 

Cyclosporiasis is an infection caused by pathogens spread through fecal matter, and ingesting them can result in diarrhea, bloating, cramps, fever and muscle aches. 

Mexico's largest neighbor is being hardest hit. Texas has so far reported over 200 cases of the infection since July.
