Ece Dorsay is a unique, alternative female singer/songwriter from Turkey, Istanbul.

Born in 1979, she studied English Literature in Bogazici University and French Literature in NDS French HighSchool.

She was drawing comics and was exposed to many good movies as a child because her father is the first and most established movie critic in Turkey.

Her debut album "Kum Saati" (HourGlass) was released in 2002 from Universal Turkey. Her second album entitled “Kırmızı Karanlık” (Red Darkness) was released in 2010.

Her video entitled “Kırmızı Karanlık” (Red Darkness) was a revolutionary one, especially in a country like Turkey, depicting the passionate love of two women. She wrote weekly columns in alternative press and worked for LGBT rights.

Her third album entitled “ Dünyamın Haritası” (Map of My World) was produced and arranged by the artist herself. She played all the instruments in it. She recorded the vocals and the guitars in Sezen Aksu’s studio, Turkey’s biggest pop star. Arif Mardin said her lyrics were very poetic and her singing was very original.

She appeared in The Guitarist magazine’s Summer issue of the year 2000, performed in many festivals like H2000 in the year 2002. She is inspired by women singers who have an attitude against racism, war, women abuse, homophobia; like Ani Difranco, Tracy Chapman, Alanis Morissette, Skin, Gail Ann Dorsey, Tanita Tikaram, Suzanne Vega, Pj Harvey, Madonna.

Her poetry book ‘Purple Dream’ was published in 2009, she is working on her new poetry book.

On Balcony Tv, Ece Dorsay performs a song of her own from her third album entitled “İstanbul Ayaklar Altında” (İstanbul under Torture) The song was written right after Emek movie theater’s demolition by the Turkish government despite all the protests. After she wrote that song, Gezi events started and she shared a demo of this song from youtube.
