The computer virus scam surges!

'If you want your important data back, pay the ransom.' Such scams are reportedly on the rise.

Ransomware is one such computer virus. Once ransomware infects a computer system, it encrypts files on the system's hard drive. Then your computer will output messages to bribe the user to pay the creator of the malware program a ransom to remove the encryption.

At first it was only popular in Russia, but the use of ransomware scams has grown internationally. Spam victims have reportedly increased to 160 and the virus is said to have even access to smartphones.

If you don't want to be bothered, backup your data, and stay away from suspicious emails and websites.
