Brazilian authorities have released footage of what they say may be the man who fell from a cruise ship carrying 3,500 fans of the Mexican team from the city where their team played Brazil.
The Mexican man, identified as Jorge Lopez Amores, was partying on the 15th-floor deck of the MSC Divina cruise ship as it sailed from Fortaleza in Brazil on Wednesday. Witnesses say he was drunk and excited about the success of his team in the tournament, after Mexico drew Brazil 0-0.
Amores had reportedly won a package to the World Cup, which included the cruise, and according to a report in the Daily Mail was chatting up an attractive female journalist when he cried: "I am so happy that I can fly! Look at me!" before jumping from the ship and falling 50 meters into the ocean below.
It took the cruise ship an hour to turn around and circle back to where Lopez Amores had fallen, by which time he was nowhere to be seen. The Brazilian navy has joined the search but chances of him being found alive are slim. Waters off the coast of the Brazil are infested with sharks and have strong currents.
