Michael Brown shooting: Missouri declares state of emergency leading up to grand jury decision

The governor of Missouri declared a state of emergency on Monday ahead of the grand jury announcement on whether to file criminal charges against the officer who fatally shot teen Michael Brown in Ferguson earlier this year.
Under the executive order that was implemented in case violence erupts in St. Louis following the decision, the St. Louis County Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the St. Louis Metropolitan Police will be working as a unified command, with the county police leading the responses.
The National Guard will also be stationed in St. Louis County to support police forces, providing security at command posts and fire stations.
Some schools in the area will dismiss students early when the decision is declared and some stores near downtown Ferguson have boarded up their windows in preparation.
Last week, the FBI issued a bulletin to law enforcement officials nationwide, urging special precautions ahead of the grand jury decision, warning that it “will likely” lead to some violence.
