Naat Khawan: Haji Siddiq Ismail

[NOTE: The meaning of the words is very deep and very metaphorical. This naat is about the love for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the city of Madinah. Only the person who wrote this poem can understand the true meaning of the words.]

It is the journey to Madina and I am teary-eyed; oh, teary-eyed!
My brow is furrowed and my feet are faltering; oh, faltering!

I am headed towards Madina; shamefaced
My eyes downcast and my body trembling; oh, trembling!

Someone's hand has lent me support, otherwise
How could I travel these paths, so difficult; oh, difficult!

How low am I and how lofty is the visage of the Sacred Tomb
My gaze rises towards it but glances only furtively; oh, furtively!

Reaching Madina, I have learnt what glory really means!
The air so pure; oh, pure! and ambience venerable; oh, venerable!

Lost, is though eyesight; intact remains insight
Madinah, I have seen; but yet remains unseen; oh, unseen!

Iqbal who was, until yesterday, proud of his cheerful nature
Now, in separation from Madinah is so sorrowful; oh, sorrowful!
