Counter Culture Labs, a group of bio-hackers based in Oakland, California, is working to make a cow’s milk cheese without involving actual cows.

Counter Culture Labs, a group of bio-hackers based in Oakland, California, is working to vastly improve vegan cheese. 

They plan to do it by making some that has a cow’s milk base, yet doesn’t involve the participation of actual cows. 

How is that possible?

For the most part, it comes down to trickery. 

In order for yeast cells to start producing milk proteins, they have to be made to believe that particular DNA components are present.
