Undercover cop fail: undercover officer pulls gun Training Day-style on crowd in Oakland rally

A demonstration against police brutality that started peacefully in Berkeley ended abruptly with arrests made in Oakland Wednesday night when an undercover California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer pulled out his gun gangster-style and aimed it at the crowd.

The protest march began with about 150 to 200 protesters on the UC Berkeley campus. Two CHP officers, one standing 6 feet eight inches tall and the other 5 feet eight inches, who attempted to go undercover were both dressed as civilians with bandanas over their faces.

At one point the group marched into a talk at Wheeler Hall, where PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel was giving a speech. The protesters were initially blocked from entering, but they forced their way through and eventually made it on stage chanting “black lives matter.” They were booed by some in the audience and told to “go home.”

By the time the group made its way down to Oakland, only a few dozen protesters remained. That’s when the two po po were called out by the real demonstrators who started pointing at them yelling, “Hey, they’re undercover, they’re cops!”

One Berkeley resident, identified as Dylan, said he pulled off the taller officer’s bandana.

The two CHP officers tried to walk away, but the demonstrators persisted, yelling at the two undercover police. One of the officers shoved a demonstrator aside. The man responded by shoving back and then the officer tackled him to the ground, handcuffing him.

The crowd naturally became angry and started to gather around them. Some reports over social media allege that after being spotted, the taller cop pulled out his baton. That’s when a member of the crowd punched the other undercover cop.

The taller cop then threw his baton on the ground and pulled out his gun, cocked gangster-style to the side, and aimed it at the crowd. Oakland police officers quickly arrived on scene and dispersed the crowd.

“I’m a white man, and I pulled off [the officer’s] mask, but they punched a black man,” Dylan said. “He got arrested.”

Oakland police Lieutenant Chris Bolton posted on Twitter Thursday that the officer was assigned to the CHP and was not an Oakland police officer.
