ISIS militants beheaded Japanese hostage Haruna Yukawa, Kenji Goto may still be alive

On Saturday, an image was uploaded to the internet that appeared to show the decapitated body of one of two captured Japanese hostages held by ISIS militants. Reportedly, the body is of Haruna Yukawa, one of the two Japanese hostages which ISIS militants had demanded USD $200 million for their safe return.

The National Security Council is still working to confirm the authenticity of the photograph, but it is presumed to be real.

The hostages, Haruna Yukawa, age 42, a failed business man who entered Syria as a military contractor, and the other, an experienced freelance journalist named Kenji Goto, age 47, were captured in August of last year.

Interestingly, Japanese netizens have little to no sympathy for the two men. Many say that the men went there of their own volition and should not be the responsibility of the Japanese government or taxpayers. Others are a bit more vague but believe the Japanese government should not give into the threats of terrorists.

Other netizens are upset with the international spotlight which has been focused on Japan, and they believe the hostage crisis puts Japan in a bad light.

Since Yukawa’s death, the number of citizens calling for Goto’s release has increased.

Looks like Islamic terrorism is no longer something that happens to other countries. Japan will have to decide how they will tackle the sticky situation.
