Jewel heist makes robbers multi-millionaires after two security vans robbed in France

Millions of euros worth of jewels were stolen when armed men robbed two security vans late on Tuesday near Auxerre, France, according to the French national police force.
About 15 men attacked four drivers in two vans around midnight Tuesday on the A6 highway at the Avallon tollbooth in the Yonne department, CNN reported a police spokesman as saying. However, the spokesman didn't confirm the total value of the jewels that were taken.
CNN French affiliate BFMTV reported that total amount of jewels taken was estimated to be worth around 9 million euros (US$9.5 million.)
The group of robbers used some kind of gas on the van drivers before taking over the vehicles, according to BFMTV. The police said no shots were fired. The robbers then fled the scene in the two vans and four high-speed cars. The vehicles were later found abandoned near the tollbooth, burned-out and emptied of their contents. A mechanical digger was also found with its arm inside one of the vans.
The drivers of the vans were being questioned by the Central Office for the Fight against Organized Crime, which is leading the investigation, police said.
