“Hurray for maggots” isn’t something you hear everyday, but 28-year-old Vietnamese construction worker Pham Quang Lanh likely has a new appreciation for these slimy worm-like creatures after they saved him from death,

Lanh was working at a site in Malaysia about a year ago when an iron bar hit him on the head so hard that doctors had to put a titanium plate in his head. In the spring of 2015, the 28-year-old man asked his family to check his wound as it was swollen and hurt.

His family was, quite understandably, freaked out when they saw maggots in the wound, but at the hospital, doctors discovered an infection had been simmering in the wound for a while but the maggots had actually saved Lanh from death by eating the infected tissue.
So hurray for maggots!
