Bad parents cause zoo accident: Crazy mom dangles toddler over cheetah pit, accidentally drops him

The parents of a 2-year-old boy could face charges after dangling their young son over the railing of a cheetah pit at the Cleveland Metropark Zoo, according to a CNN report.

The toddler slipped from his mother’s grasp and fell 10-12 feet into the cheetah pit around 3 p.m. Saturday. At least one of the parents jumped in after the boy and rescued him.

“All you could see is the adult that jumped in, got the kid, and then somebody pulled him out,” witness Michael Lurie told ABC 5.

Police have not identified the family.

A zoo spokesperson said the animal did not approach the toddler while he was in the pit.

"The cheetahs made no attempt to interact with the child and parents at any time," said Cleveland Metroparks Zoo executive director Christopher Kuhar.

After the child was pulled to safety, paramedics transported him to Cleveland Metro Hospital for leg injuries.

Officials closed the cheetah exhibit on Saturday after the incident.

The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo plans to file charges against the parents for child endangering, Fox 8 reported.
