Spiders’ Webs Are Designed To Catch Prey With Desired Nutrients

A recent study has found that the main reason spiders design their webs in different ways is to make them more able to catch prey with desired nutritional benefits, especially protein.

Spiders can sense nearby prey and will design their webs to catch the insects that will provide the most preferred nutrients.

The team of international researchers that contributed to this study at one point termed the behavior “trap architectural flexibility” which is one of the few ways trap builders like spiders can influence the selection of prey.
