Ithaca Tourism Temporarily Gives Up Due to Cold Winter

The Ithaca, New York Visitors Bureau temporarily changed its website VisitIthaca.com to point tourists to the Florida Keys instead, citing a “ridiculously stupid winter” and encouraging visits "when things thaw out.

The Ithaca, New York Visitors Bureau temporarily threw in the towel Sunday night when it began encouraging tourists to visit warmer Florida instead.

This change was primarily communicated through their website which crossed out “VisitIthaca.com” and instead posted links to information about the Keys and Key West.

The site attributed the change to a “ridiculously stupid winter” and invited tourists to return “when things thaw out.”

The cold weather in Ithaca is expected to continue this week, with lows dipping into the single digits; meanwhile, temperatures in the Keys are reported to be in the 60s and 70s.

Bruce Stoff, director of the Ithaca Visitors Bureau, explains, "This is a way for us to stay engaged with our customers at a time when upstate New York isn't exact
