Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow review of Cool Spot for the Super NES developed and published by Virgin Interactive. Three years after making his video game debut in an Othello clone, 7-Up’s Spot got a sequel in 1993’s Cool Spot. Playing as the soda brand’s quintessentially 1990s mascot, you platform through standard 2D levels while collecting spots and searching for your captured spot friends. The game doesn’t bother reinventing the wheel, but rather, it sticks to a traditional blueprint and does it surprisingly well for what is essentially an interactive commercial. The game’s claim to fame is arguably its soundtrack, featuring music from Tommy Tallarico. You might expect a game about soda pop to be flat, but Cool Spot is better than you might think. This game features single-player play only. This video review features video gameplay footage of Cool Spot for the Super NES and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's Derek.
