From the ground...

...and the air, firefighters are battling a bushfires in south Australia.

Temperatures are expected to soar in the area on Tuesday and Wednesday so they're trying to get the upper hand before weather conditions worsen in the Adelaide Hills.

(SOUNDBITE)(English) SOUTH AUSTRALIA COUNTRY FIRE SERVICE CHIEF OFFICER GREG NETTLETON SAYING:

"Our intention is to put as much as we possibly can into the fire-affected area so that when the weather comes through on Wednesday we've got lots of resources there. So that's pretty much a summary of where we are at but certainly we are starting to make some significant progress to get people back into those areas."

At least 20 homes already have been destroyed and dozens of families have been evacuated.
