A North Carolina community mourns the loss of two beloved members...after a father and son go on a shocking multi-state crime spree.

Police say Edward Campbell and his son, Eric, both from Texas, killed an elderly couple in Granville County, North Carolina on Thursday and burned down their house.

The pair then drove to West Virginia.

Police pulled over one of their vehicles -- leading to a shoot-out that left Edward Campbell and two police injured.

In the back of the truck Edward Campbell drove were the bodies of the couple -- Jerome Faulkner and his wife Dora.

In Georgia on New Year's Day, a police chief claimed he accidentally shot his wife early in the morning while moving his service pistol.

Authorities arrived at their home to find 58-year old Margaret McCollom shot in the back. She remains in critical condition.

William McCollom, the chief, is on administrative leave until the investigation is finished.
