Wedding party hit in Afghan violence

The casualties of a mortar strike on a wedding party in Afghanistan arrive at hospital in Helmand province.

At least 20 civilians are said to have died when army mortar rounds landed on a village in Sangin district.

Scores more have been wounded.

Angry relatives lashed out at the Afghan government.

(SOUNDBITE) (Pashto) MOHAMMAD JAN, RELATIVE OF THE VICTIMS, SAYING:

"If this kind of incident had happened to President Ashraf Ghani's family, or the family of Chief Executive Abdullah, then they would understand our pain. The people gathered here are asking the government why we should be suffering, and why does the government not feel our pain?"

Military officials said Afghan troops fired mortar rounds from three outposts.

They said an investigation was underway.
