Kenya claims killing scores of militants following Saturday's bus ambush

Security forces in Kenya say they have killed more than 100 Islamist militants, perusing them back to their camp across the border in Somalia.

Two military operations were launched following Saturday’s ambush on a Nairobi bus in which 28 people died.

Security has been stepped up across the country and Kenya’s Deputy President has vowed to hunt down the attackers.

Somalian Islamists al Shabaab have claimed responsibility for Saturday’s ambush when gunmen ordered passengers on the bus to recite Koran verses and shot dead non-Muslims – 19 men and nine women. The killings have drawn international condemnation.

Al Shabaab said the killings were in retaliation for last week’s police raids on mosques in Mombasa. They also deny that any of those who took part in the bus ambush were killed in Sunday’s military operations.
