Millions of people have a fascination with the Japanese fictional character known as ‘Hello Kitty,’ and its long lineup of related merchandise.

A woman in Maine, 37-year-old Carrie Gipson, was arrested after she was caught allegedly driving drunk while wearing a ‘Hello Kitty’ costume in the town of Gorham.

Police stopped Gipson after spotting her car driving in the wrong lane in the early morning hours of Sunday. It didn't take long for cops to notice her unusual choice of attire.

She was soon arrested for Operating Under the Influence and transported to Cumberland County Jail.

Local law enforcement officials seemed to be surprised by the ‘Hello Kitty’ costume. Instead of sharing just Gipson's mugshot on social media, which is common practice nowadays, Gorham police also posted a picture of the costume head resting on the car seat.

Officers have made it clear they will be patrolling the area looking for intoxicated motorists and discouraging drunk driving in the days leading up to Halloween.
